Myrna Pérez, director of the Voting Rights and Elec­tions Program at the Bren­nan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law, test­i­fied before the House of Repres­ent­at­ives’ Subcom­mit­tee on the Consti­tu­tion, Civil Rights and Civil Liber­ties on Septem­ber 10, 2019 in support of the Voting Rights Advance­ment Act. This bill would revital­ize the Voting Rights Act, by restor­ing and updat­ing key provi­sions that were gutted by the Supreme Court in the 2013 Shelby County v. Holder decision.
