Coalition Letter Urges Federal Agencies to Take Additional Steps to Implement Executive Order on Voting

On March 7, 2021, President Biden signed the Executive Order Promoting Access to Voting, directing federal agencies to explore ways to increase Americans’ opportunities to register to vote and participate in the electoral process. While agencies have made important commitments to protecting and promoting the right to vote, their commitments have fallen far short of the kinds of meaningful actions to have the impact sought by the President through the Executive Order. This letter, in the wake of failed passage of legislative solutions for the challenges to our democracy, urges the departments to take additional specific steps to provide more robust voter registration opportunities and more fully meet the goals of the executive order.
