Advances in Voter Registration Modernization

  • Online Voter Registration: Idaho launched online voter registration through the Secretary of State’s office in 2017. Eligible citizens with a state driver’s license or non-driver ID can use the system to register to vote and update their registration information.
  • Election Day Registration: Idaho implemented Election Day registration in 1994. Individuals may register and vote at the polls on Election Day or at their absent elector’s polling place during the early voting period.
  • Electronic Pollbooks: Idaho authorizes the use of e-pollbooks at the county level.

Gains from Voter Registration Modernization in Idaho

  • In the November 2016 general election, 131,455 voters registered on Election Day or during the early voting period.
