The Fair Elections Now Act is federal public financing legislation introduced by Representative John Yarmuth (D-KY). The legislation combining aspects of the “clean money, clean elections” public financing programs enacted in Maine, Arizona, and Connecticut as well as the small donor matching fund program in New York City.
If adopted, the program would provide grants of public funds to House candidates. Beyond the initial funding, participating candidates would be permitted to raise small contributions of $100 or less that would be matched with additional public funds at a 5–1 ratio.
