Poll: Majority of Voters Confident Midterms Will Be Conducted Fairly, with Reliable Results

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law and R Street Institute released the following findings from a new national poll by Benenson Strategy Group of 950 registered voters.

• More than three quarters of Democrats and more than half of Independents say they are confident that the 2022 midterms and other future elections will be conducted fairly and free of fraud, tampering, or irregularities; 3 in 10 Republicans agree.
   
  • When presented with information about existing election safeguards, voters’ confidence in future elections increased across the board. Republicans’ confidence increased by 21 percentage points after seeing this information.
     
• Two-thirds of voters nationwide are broadly confident in the results of the 2020 presidential election. They do not believe that there was widespread fraud, tampering, or interference in that election. Belief that widespread fraud occurred is concentrated among Republicans.

Registered Democrats, Republicans, and Independents responded to the survey, which was conducted by phone, online, and from SMS to online, between June 2 and June 13, 2022. The margin of sampling error is ±3.10%.
