New York, N.Y. – On Friday, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division (Third Department) will hear arguments in Brennan Center for Justice’s appeal in the LLC loophole lawsuit. The Brennan Center and Emery Celli Brinckerhoff & Abady LLP filed an opening brief this past June on behalf of a bipartisan group of former State legislators, candidates, and other appellants, urging the court to close the loophole that renders contribution limits meaningless for a cluster of powerful donors.
The Brennan Center has long argued the infamous LLC loophole has been central to corruption in New York, compromising democracy in the state by giving some donors too much behind-the-scenes influence in Albany. View the brief and related resources here.
Brennan Center experts will be in attendance Friday and available for comment to the media.
