Samuel Breidbart

Samuel Breidbart serves as counsel in the Democracy Program at the Brennan Center, where he combats the misuse of history in the courts.

Breidbart has worked in New York City government, most recently at the New York City Council as counsel to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, where he drafted and negotiated legislation. Before that, Breidbart practiced at Selendy Gay Elsberg, where his work included constitutional and election litigation.

He has been published in Vox, Slate, and Time.com on constitution- and election-related issues.

Breidbart received a BA in history from Yale College, an MPhil in political thought and intellectual history from Cambridge, and a JD from Yale Law School. He began his legal career clerking for Judge José A. Cabranes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
