VRM in the States: Wyoming
Wyoming currently has the Election Day Registration and Portability components of Voter Registration Modernization in place.
Advances in Voter Registration Modernization
- Election Day Registration: Wyoming implemented Election Day registration in 1994. Individuals may register and vote at the polls on Election Day.
- Portability: Registered voters who move within the state without updating their registration can, on Election Day, cast a regular ballot at their new polling place. Those who move within their county are required to update their address at the polls, while those who move to a new county must re-register at the polls.
- Electronic Pollbooks: In March 2015, Wyoming authorized the use of electronic pollbooks in the state.
Gains from Voter Registration Modernization in Wyoming
- For the 2014 general election, same-day registrations constituted 13.7% of all registrations received in the two years preceding the election.
