Buying Time 2012: Louisiana

In Louisiana, voters were asked to choose a replacement for retiring Justice Kitty Kimball. There were eight candidates competing in the partisan judicial primary, which took place on Election Day, November 6. Democratic candidates included John Michael Guidry and Mary Olive Pierson. Republican candidates included Toni Manning Higginbotham, Jeff Hughes, Timothy E. “Tim” Kelley, William “Bill” Morvant, and Jewel E. “Duke” Welch. There was also one candidate with no party affiliation, Jeffry Lamonte Sanford. Jeff Hughes (R) and John Guidry (D) won the primary race and moved on to the general election, which took place on December 8th. Jeff Hughes won the seat on the high court.
