On October 14, 2021, Senior Counsel Ian Vandewalker submitted a comment to New York’s Public Campaign Finance Board regarding the draft regulations published for the state’s newly enacted small donor public financing program. The program provides a multiple match on small donations from New York residents to participating candidates. The comment addresses the need to ensure the program is accessible and understandable for all candidates, particularly first time candidates and candidates without substantial resources, while also acknowledging the need for the program to protect the public fisc and ensure transparency and fairness.
