Brennan Center Response to Violence in U.S. Capitol

"This is an assault against the seat of government, incited by Trump, intending to block the results of a free and fair election,” says Brennan Center president Michael Waldman.

In response to the violence in the U.S. Capitol, Michael Waldman, president of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law, had the following comment.

“This is an assault against the seat of government, incited by Trump, intending to block the results of a free and fair election. Trump continues to incite it. The 25th amendment, or impeachment so he cannot run again, must be considered quickly. The law should be enforced against all these rioters. 

“Members of Congress must stop spreading lies about America’s election, and stop the effort to negate the votes of millions of voters, especially Black voters in swing states. And we should never, ever forget this moment.”
