Two seats are up for partisan election to the Louisiana Supreme Court on December 5, 2020. A nonpartisan primary occurred on November 3, 2020. Chief Justice Bernette Johnson’s term is due to expire on December 31, 2020. Circuit Court of Appeals Judges Sandra Jenkins and Terri Love are competing against Civil District Court Judge Piper Griffin for Johnson’s seat. All three candidates are Democrats. Griffin and Love advanced to the general election. A special election will also take place to replace Justice Marcus Clark who retired June 30, 2020. Circuit Court of Appeals judges Jay McCallum and Shannon Gremillion, both Republicans, are running for Clark’s seat. McCallum defeated Gremillion in the primary election.
