Comment to FEC: Adopt updated rules requiring transparency for paid influencers and other nontraditional online political ads.

The Brennan Center urged the commission to update its rules to ensure that when candidates pay influencers or use other nontraditional means to reach voters online the relevant communications are transparent.

On January 9th, 2023, the Brennan Center submitted a comment to the Federal Election Commission urging the Commission to build on its recent rulemaking updating political ad disclosure requirements to ensure that communications from paid influencers and other nontraditional forms of online political advertising contain disclaimers so that voters know who paid for them.
