Wrong Primary Date Sent to Washington, DC, Voters

The correct date is June 2.

February 21, 2020

The D.C. Board of Elections sent a mailing with an incorrect date for the District of Columbia’s primary. The correct date is Tuesday, June 2. A voter who received the mailing this week alerted the Brennan Center. The organization notified the Board of Elections about the error and requested that the Board take steps to inform the public about the correct date. It is not yet known how many voters were sent the mailing with the misinformation.

The following quote should be attributed to Myrna Perez, director of the Voting Rights and Elections Program at the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law:

“Erroneous information can confuse voters at best and disenfranchise voters at worst. Election officials must share correct and accurate information about upcoming elections, and their respective legislatures need to get them the resources they need to do so.”
