Dominique Erney was the special assistant to the vice president at the Brennan Center. Before joining the Brennan Center, she interned with the Justice Policy Institute and the American Civil Liberties Union’s National Prison Project, both based in Washington DC.
Erney was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida. She graduated from Harvard University in 2019 with a joint AB in social studies and African American studies and a focus field in the impacts of the criminal justice system on Black America. She wrote her senior thesis on the plea bargaining process and its role in the continued subjugation of Black Americans in the justice system.
As an undergraduate student, she served as the vice president of the Harvard College Democrats and was heavily involved with the Institute of Politics, including serving as a student liaison to Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum. Outside of democracy and justice work, Erney enjoys theatre, music, and being on the water.
