Ava Kaufman serves as Special Assistant to the Director of the Justice Program. She provides research assistance, scheduling, and administrative support. Before joining the Brennan Center, she interned for a year with the Pro Bono division of DLA Piper, where she did operational work and communications for pro bono initiatives and provided research assistance on various immigration and criminal justice projects.
Ava received a BA in Psychology and Sociology (with a focus in Law, Justice, and Social Change) from the University of Michigan. During her undergraduate years, she participated in multiple justice-related projects and community organizations. While managing a psychology research lab, she completed an honors thesis on adult outcomes for survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
