On November 15, 2007, New York City Council Members Rose Mendez and Alan Gerson introduced legislation to establish a right to counsel for low-income seniors facing eviction or foreclosure. The bill, Introduction 648 (2007), currently has 38 sponsors in the City Council and has been referred to the Council’s Committee on Aging for further action. In addition to overwhelming support by City Council Members, many organizations in New York are working to pass this important legislation. Watch a video of the press conference discussing the bill.
