Texas’s new law, which imposes a government-issued photo ID requirement for voting, will disproportionately burden minority voters and produce discriminatory effects. The Brennan Center, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and the Texas State Conference of the NAACP sent this joint letter to the Department of Justice, urging the rejection of Texas’ request for preclearance of the new law.
