Members of the Muslim community filed a complaint against the New York Police Department this morning alleging that the department’s surveillance of Muslims based on their religion is discriminatory and unconstitutional. The lawsuit alleges that the NYPD has used Muslim religious beliefs and practices as a proxy for terrorist activity, stigmatizing an entire faith community and harming individuals and religious institutions.
