Retiring Chief Justice Karla Gray’s seat was up for grabs in the 2008 Montana Supreme Court election. Attorney General Mike McGrath and lawyer Ron Waterman challenged each other for the open seat. All ads run during the campaign were funded by Friends of Mike McGrath, and all advertisements were positive in tone. Patricia O’Brien Cotter’s seat was also up for reelection, but she ran unopposed. McGrath won the election and will now serve an eight-year term as chief justice.
