Following the passing of former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, the Brennan Center for Justice released a statement from President Michael Waldman:

“We are deeply saddened today by the loss of Mayor Ed Koch. In his decades of public service, Mayor Koch was a vital and tireless voice for reform and change in New York. We were honored to work with him through the years, particularly in the recent fight to bring small donor public financing to Albany. New Yorkers of all stripes will miss his tremendous leadership and spirit.”

Mayor Koch was a member of NY LEAD, a coalition of business, civic, and philanthropic leaders convened by the Brennan Center to help bring public financing to New York State. Last month, he co-authored a Daily News op-ed in support of the reform effort.
