Gov. Cuomo Shows Bold Leadership on NY Campaign Reform

Including public financing and other critical components of campaign finance reform in this year’s budget is the best way to change Albany’s pay-to-play culture.

Reports show Gov. Andrew Cuomo plans to include comprehensive campaign finance reform in this year’s budget. The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law released the following statement from Democracy Program Deputy Director Lawrence Norden:

“Governor Cuomo has shown bold leadership by including public financing and other critical components of campaign finance reform in this year’s budget. Comprehensive reform is the best way to change Albany’s pay-to-play culture and put voters, not dollars, back in charge of our government. The Senate came just one vote shy of passing reform last year. Two-thirds of New Yorkers want this reform. It’s time for the legislature to make it happen in 2014.”
