In advance of an expected vote by the House of Representatives on the Reforming Intelligence and Securing America Act, the Brennan Center joins more than 30 civil society organizations in urging representatives to vote in favor of amendments offered by members of the House Judiciary Committee, which will end Section 702 abuses by adding protections for Americans’ civil liberties, and to vote against amendments offered by members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which will weaken privacy safeguards and expand warrantless surveillance.

The Brennan Center and Empire State Indivisible, joined by more than 30 civil liberties, free speech, and New York organizations, urge congressional leaders to protect protesters by opposing any reauthorization of Section 702 without reforms to close the backdoor search and data broker loopholes.
