Johnson v. Bush
The Center, representing more than 600,000 Florida citizens in a class action suit, challenged Florida’s permanent disenfranchisement of people with felony convictions. Together with co-counsel, the Center argued that, because of its discriminatory intent and effect, Florida’s voting ban violated both the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. -
Farrakhan v. Gregoire
The Ninth Circuit held that Washington’s felony disenfranchisement law does not violate the Voting Rights Act because there was no evidence of intentional discrimination in the state’s criminal justice system.

The Center filed an amicus brief defending the Census Bureau’s use of statistical sampling to remedy the undercounting of minorities. -
Hunt v. Cromartie
This case arose from a challenge to North Carolina’s 12th Congressional District, which was 47 percent African-American. -

Molinari v. Powers
In 2000, the Center and Emery Cuti Brinckerhoff & Abady successfully represented Senator John McCain and his New York supporters in challenging ballot access laws for the New York Republican presidential primary. The ruling guaranteed the first fair Republican presidential primary in New York’s history.
