The United States has entered a new and dangerous era of political corruption. Wealthy campaign donors wield unprecedented influence over government policy on everything from taxes to artificial intelligence to food safety. Profiteering in government service has become worryingly normal— from President Trump’s myriad conflicts of interest arising from crypto ventures and other business dealings to members of Congress trading stocks on nonpublic information. Meanwhile, too many Americans, facing rising costs and diminished opportunities, feel left behind by a government that does not prioritize their interests.
How will these trends shape the midterms and American politics over the longer term? How does the public feel corruption affects their lives? What solutions are available to address corruption as a systemic problem?
Join the Brennan Center for Justice on Tuesday, May 12, at 12 p.m. at the National Press Club for an expert panel discussion on the current era of corruption and ways to build from this moment.
Lunch will be served at 12 p.m. The panel conversation will begin at 12:30 p.m.
