There are five seats on the Washington Supreme Court that are up for nonpartisan election on November 3, 2026. The primary elections for four of these seats (Position 1, 3, 5 and 7) occurred on August 4, 2026. For the special election primary for Position 1 on the court, incumbent justice Colleen Melody and Attorney Scott Edwards defeated Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Laura Christensen Colberg. For the special election primary for Position 5, incumbent justice Theo Angelis and former Federal Way Municipal Court Judge Dave Larson won against Thurston County Superior Court Judge Sharonda Amamilo, and former Seattle Municipal Court Judge Greg Miller. Washington Court of Appeals Judge J. Michael Diaz conceded the race for Position 3 to King County Superior Court Judge Jaime Hawk and Mason County Superior Court Judge David Stevens. For Position 7, incumbent justice Debra Stephens and Attorney Todd Bloom defeated Attorney Karim Merchant and Attorney David Shelvey. For each of these positions, the top two candidates from the primary will compete in the general election. The primary for Position 4 was cancelled meaning that candidates Washington Court of Appeals Judge Ian Birk and King County Superior Court Judge Sean O’Donnell will run in the general election only.
