Incumbent Justice William Scott was up for re-election in 2012 against Court of Appeals Judge Janet Stumbo. Judge Stumbo previously served on the Supreme Court from 1993–2004, until Scott defeated her in the 2004 race. The campaigns featured a number of mud-slinging attack ads that accused Judge Stumbo of “sid[ing] with criminals 59 percent of the time,” and blamed Justice Scott for “airing misleading ads.”

The general election was held on November 6 and Justice William Scott won re-election.
