The Brennan Center’s Justice Program submitted comments on a federal rule proposed by the White House’s Office of Management and Budget (“OMB”) earlier this year. The Brennan Center supports the OMB’s proposal to streamline all federal grant processes into a uniform model and applauds its efforts to hold government spending accountable. The Center also supports proposed audit changes meant to detect the abuse of funds. Further, the Brennan Center suggests that the OMB write a separate rule with the same goals for measuring the performance of funding recipients to ensure funds are spent on the grant’s true purpose, and ultimately ensures that the public receives the most value from its tax dollars.
