Final Step for Public Financing in New York
The New York State Senate’s budget resolution, released today, contains a commitment to negotiate over comprehensive campaign finance reforms, including public financing.
The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law released the following statement from Democracy Program Deputy Director Lawrence Norden on ongoing campaign finance reform negotiations in Albany:
“The New York State Senate’s budget resolution, released today, contains a commitment to negotiate over comprehensive campaign finance reforms, including public financing. Senate Co-Leader Klein, whose chamber has been the main stumbling block for reform, deserves praise for holding firm to keep public financing in the Senate budget. It is now up to Gov. Cuomo to ensure the final budget includes public financing of campaigns, improved enforcement and transparency, and lower contribution limits.”
