Media Alert: February 15 Summary Judgment Hearing in Johnson v. Bush Cancelled

Judge James Lawrence King has cancelled the February 15 hearing on cross motions for summary judgment in Johnson v. Bush. The federal class action lawsuit seeks to overturn a lifetime voting ban affecting more than 600,000 ex-felons in Florida.

Judge King cancelled the hearing “due to the numerous motions recently filed.” The date will be reset upon further order of the court. The case’s March 18 trial date has been postponed indefinitely. Hearings for arguments on the exclusion of evidence and expert witnesses have been scheduled for March 12 and 13.

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law, lead counsel for the plaintiff class, will provide more information about the litigation schedule and court calendar as it becomes available.

Plaintiffs and attorneys are available for comment or interview. Get more information, including briefs and court orders, by calling Amanda Cooper at 212.998.6736 or by going to the Johnson v. Bush page.
