On April 25, 2018 a ballot question committee filed suit in Michigan state court to block a ballot proposal that would establish an independent redistricting commission for drawing Michigan’s congressional and state legislative electoral maps.
The Brennan Center and co-counsel Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP requested permission from the Court to intervene on behalf of California Common Cause in a lawsuit accusing California state and the County of Los Angeles of not purging voters aggressively enough from the rolls.
Maryland and Arizona residents are challenging the Department of Commerce’s decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census. The plaintiffs argue that the decision violates the U.S. Constitution and the Administrative Procedure Act. This case is pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
