Walter Shapiro was a fellow at the Brennan Center and an award-winning journalist. He is a staff writer for the New Republic, a columnist for Roll Call, a frequent contributor to the Guardian, and a lecturer in political science at Yale University. Shapiro was a White House speechwriter for President Jimmy Carter.
