Theresa Raffaele Jefferson
As Managing Director, Ms. Jefferson develops and maintains a strong infrastructure within the Communications department for sharing information internally and for engaging staff at all levels in developing strategies, messaging, and plans. She helps ensure that the communications staff has the information, direction, and resources needed to produce a large volume of high-quality work under tight deadlines. She also serves as a connector and partner to staff in other departments.
Prior to joining the Brennan Center, Ms. Jefferson performed a similar role as the Managing Director of the Communications Division at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Ms. Jefferson is also the former Research Director at SEIU Local 32BJ where she helped drive the union’s organizing campaigns and citywide bargaining efforts. She also served as the Public Education Attorney at Lambda Legal, and the Coordinator of the Community and Police Relations Program at the Anti-Violence Project.
Ms. Jefferson is a graduate of Wheaton College and Boston College Law School, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Boston College Third World Law Review.
