Over the last decade and a half, state Supreme Court elections have been transformed into politicized and costly contests, dominated by special interests seeking to shape courts to their liking. In 2013-14, deep-pocketed special interests “upped their game” like never before. National groups investing across multiple states joined local organizations in spending big to swing elections their way.

The New Politics of Judicial Elections report, co-authored by the Brennan Center for Justice, Justice at Stake, and the National Institute on Money in State Politics, charts the latest trends and record-smashing spending on judicial races, examining how it all poses a grave threat to fair and impartial justice in America.
