The Center takes great pride each year in presenting Brennan Legacy Awards to those who have advanced the twin goals of equality and what Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. called "common human dignity" that lie at the heart of the Brennan Center's mission. 


Michael S. Helfer
General Counsel of Citigroup Inc., who helped found Lawyers for Children America and has served as president of the Legal Aid Society in Washington, DC.

Antonia Hernández
Who has dedicated her life to the fight to protect and expand civil rights through her work as President and General Counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), and now as President & CEO of the California Community Foundation.

José E. Serrano
US Rep. of the Sixteenth District of New York, for his work to enhance legal services for low-income families.
