Cathy Mitchell Toren
Development, Director
Cathy recently joined the Brennan Center in January 2008 to assume the role of Director of Development. She is responsible for directing all of the organization's fund-raising activities, including major gift, individual, foundation, direct mail and special events as well as managing the development staff. She works directly with the Executive Director in strategic planning and oversees the Board of Directors and Program Advisory Board.
Prior to the Brennan Center, Cathy served as Chief of Staff to New York City Councilmember David Yassky. She was the Finance Director for David Yassky's re-election and 11th District Congressional bid. Before that, Cathy worked as Campaign Manager for the Advertising Council, Inc. on numerous government and non-profit communications programs for clients including the American Red Cross, The United Way of America, The United Negro College Fund, The National Institutes of Health, The Office of the White House, Environmental Defense and The Business Roundtable Poverty Initiative.
Cathy holds a B.A. in Art History from the University of Georgia and attended the Universite de Paris, Sorbonne. She is an active community and civic volunteer in New York City and lives with her husband and two children.
