Pro Bono Work
The Brennan Center offers many opportunities for volunteer lawyers to work with our staff on litigation, policy research, and public advocacy efforts. Although the Center is based in New York, we do work across the country and are often looking for local counsel in other states and localities.
Volunteer Opportunities
We welcome inquiries from law students, attorneys, and other persons who would like to participate in the work of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law. We encourage individuals to learn from our web site about the activities of our Democracy and Justice programs, and to approach us with ideas for becoming involved.
Fellowship Opportunities
The George A. Katz Fellowship provides the opportunity for a recent graduate of New York University School of Law to spend two years as a staff attorney at the Brennan Center for Justice. The Fellowship is generously funded by the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in honor of George A. Katz, an alumnus of the law school and a founding partner of the firm. In addition, the Brennan Center may be interested in sponsoring individuals pursuing other public interest fellowships.
Student Opportunities
We offer semester-term and summer-term internships and externships for undergraduate, graduate and law students, as well as particular opportunities, such as the Public Policy Advocacy Clinic, for NYU School of Law students. Law students are sometimes able to earn credit for their work, may be able to develop law review pieces and other papers on subjects growing out of the Center's activities, and are encouraged to apply for post-graduate fellowships at the Center.
