Texas Voter ID Law Taken to Court

The Brennan Center filed suit Tuesday to block Texas’s voter ID requirement. The Center and other allies represent the Texas NAACP and the Mexican American Legislative Caucus. A federal court blocked the law last year under the Voting Rights Act. But the Texas attorney general announced he would implement the measure immediately after a June Supreme Court ruling weakening a key provision of the landmark civil rights law. New York State Tackles Political Corruption

AP Journalists Unearth Muslim Surveillance Program

Pulitzer Prize award-winning journalists Matt Apuzzo and Adam Goldman joined the Brennan Center Monday for a panel discussion of their recent book “Enemies Within.” The duo broke the story of the New York Police Department’s controversial Muslim surveillance program. Faiza Patel moderated the panel, which included former FBI Assistant Special Agent Don Borelli, to a crowd of more than 200.

Foreign Law Bans in a State Near You? Legal Difficulties, Practical Problems

On September 23, the Brennan Center will host a conversation on foreign law bans — bills that outlaw religious, foreign, or international law. Six states have passed such bans and five more are poised to pass similar measures.
