The Center represented the Working Families Party, ACORN, and individual voters in this case seeking to compel the New York City Board of Elections to repair the sensor latches on the City’s voting machines. The lawsuit, filed in July 2003, claimed that as many as 60,000 New Yorkers may have lost their votes in the 2000 general election through accidental undervoting that the sensors latches are designed to prevent. The Board of Elections had voted to repair the latches, but later reversed its decision.
