Is it time to police the NYPD? The police have been given broad powers to keep New York safe from both crime and terrorism. But recent reports have raised questions about a range of NYPD practices, from stop, question and frisk to surveillance of Muslim communities. Join us for an engaging discussion on whether oversight of the NYPD has kept pace with police operations and authorities and the role oversight could play in addressing current controversies.
Join us for a panel discussion featuring:
- Professor Ned Benton, Chair of the Department of Public Management at John Jay College of Criminal Justice
- Merrick Bobb President, Police Assessment Resource Center
- Donna Lieberman Executive Director, New York Civil Liberties Union
- Professor Patrick O'Hara John Jay College of Criminal Justice
- Faiza Patel Co-Director of the Liberty and National Security Program, Brennan Center for Justice
