Intelligence Collection and Law Enforcement: New Roles, New Challenges
Featuring:
Hon. John O. Brennan, Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism
and
Rep. Bennie Thompson, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security
In the post-9/11 world, law enforcement officials are increasingly charged with a new mission. They are no longer merely crime-fighters, tasked with investigating crimes that have happened or are underway. They are also intelligence-collectors, tasked with gathering as much information as they can in order to stop the next terrorist attack before it happens.
On March 18, the Brennan Center for Justice will bring together an array of perspectives to discuss the implications of this new role for civil liberties and for the effectiveness of our nation’s counterterrorism efforts.
