ACORN v. Bysiewicz

In September 2004, the Brennan Center filed the first lawsuit in the county to seek Election Day registration as a cure for the disenfranchisement of eligible voters. In response to the litigation, Connecticut dropped its registration deadline to seven days before an election, which is now the latest deadline in the nation short of full Election Day registration (2005).

Nader Ballot Access Cases

The Center represented Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader in lawsuits in Idaho, Illinois, North Carolina, South Dakota, and West Virginia seeking to place Nader on the November 2000 presidential ballot. The Center argued that ballot access rules in those states have placed an unconstitutional and unfair burden on the candidate.

Qassim v. Bush (Amicus Brief)

On behalf of six judges, the Brennan Center filed in the D.C. Circuit Court an amicus brief that brings light to the dangers of indefinite executive detention and urges the court to place checks on the executive branch.

The Center, in its defense of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, focused primarily on defending the portion of the law that regulates campaign advertising by interest groups.
