Lawrence Norden

Democracy, Senior Counsel
As Senior Counsel, Mr. Norden directs the Center's Voting Technology Project, and works in the areas of voting systems, voting rights and government accountability. Mr. Norden recently completed his duties as Chair of the Ohio Secretary of State's bipartisan Election Summit and Conference, authoring a report to Secretary Brunner for the purpose of improving Ohio's election administration practices and laws; the report's conclusions have been endorsed by State leaders in both major political parties, as well as many of the state's leading voting and civil rights groups, and the bipartisan Ohio Association of Election Officials. In addition to his voting work, Mr. Norden also edits and writes for the Brennan Center's blog on New York State, ReformNY. Mr. Norden is the lead author of The Machinery of Democracy: Protecting Elections in an Electronic World (Academy Chicago Press) and a contributor to the Encyclopedia of American Civil Liberties (Routledge 2007).
