Together with the Mississippi Center for Justice, the Brennan Center wrote a letter to the Secretary of State to ensure accuracy and accountability in future updating of the voter rolls after an election official placed 10,000 voters on an inactive list.

In detail – Just before Mississippi's March 11 presidential primary the media reported that the District 1 Election Commissioner had placed 10,000 Madison County voters on inactive voter lists. Federal law forbids any kind of tampering with the voter rolls within 90 days of an election. The election commissioner was roundly castigated for her actions, and voters were ultimately restored before the primary. But concerns remain as to how the state will proceed after the primary. Together with the Mississippi Center for Justice, the Brennan Center wrote a letter to the Secretary of State to ensure accuracy and accountability in future updating of the voter rolls.
