Ramesh Ponnuru, of the National Review, writes an op-ed for the New York Times in which he questions the consistency of conservative claims regarding originalism and judicial restraint.  "When it comes to the race cases before the Supreme Court, too many conservatives abandon both originalism and judicial restraint," he maintains.   Ponnuru considers Justice Thomas's dissent in NAMUDNO v. Holder as well as arguments made by conservatives about Ricci v. DeStefano as examples of conservative jurisprudence betraying some of its own principles.
