The Oakland Tribune states: "An Alameda County Superior Court judge took under submission a request to issue a temporary restraining order against the county's social services agency and its plan to curtail its general assistance program. Judge David Hunter will review the request by legal advocacy groups and six general assistance recipients - and possibly issue a ruling this week - to immediately stop the agency's plan to impose a six-month time limit on residents receiving general assistance who are considered employable. The new time limit took effect in January [2008], meaning some general assistance recipients will lose their benefits at the end of June [2008]. On Monday [June 9, 2008], the Public Interest Law Project, the firm Heller Ehrman and [LSC-funded] Bay Area Legal Aid filed a suit in Alameda County Superior Court on behalf of six general assistance recipients, saying the plan violates state law and will cost thousands their homes."
