In an essay about the U.S. Supreme Court, Dahlia Lithwick writes, "[w]hile the justices cannot bring down gas prices or bring home the troops, their decisions in the coming years will affect just about everything else." As the next president may have "the constitutional equivalent of a royal flush" with the chance to appoint as many as three justices, the "composition of the high court is one of the most important issues at stake in the November election." Lithwick provides readers with a user's guide to the Supreme Court in hopes of getting them to consider a "deeper question about the role of courts" instead of solely weighing their vote on a presidential candidate who will appoint judges who are "good for women" or "good for property rights."
