The Senate allocated $300 million for LSC, which is $5 million less than the current FY2000 $305 million allocation. The funding allotment is contained in the Senate’s version of the FY01 Commerce, Justice, State and Judiciary Appropriations Bill, and is $40 million short of President Clinton’s FY2001 request of $340 million for LSC. A vote on the unnumbered bill is expected before the Senate’s August recess. Last month, the House approved a $275 million allocation for LSC in FY2001 in H.R. 4690, their version of the Commerce, Justice, State and Judiciary Appropriations Bill. The House and Senate are expected to go to conference to hammer out a compromise in September. The White House has threatened to veto both versions of the bill.
