Club for Growth, a new conservative political group, targets certain Republican members of Congress because of their support for federal programs such as LSC and the National Endowment for the Arts, and lack of support for certain tax cuts. The group plans to direct eight million dollars in funding towards 20 selected “Reaganite” congressional candidates, some of whom will be challengers to Republican incumbents who are not sufficiently dedicated to “a supply-side, limited-government agenda,” says president of Club for Growth and director of fiscal policy studies at the Cato Institute Stephen Moore. Prime marks identified by Club for Growth for next year’s elections include several Republican House incumbents who have supported LSC: Mike Castle (R-DL), Jack Quinn (R-NY), and Chris Shays (R-CT).
