The South Florida Times reported that although judicial diversity was a key agenda item at a recent meeting between the Florida Conference of Black State Legislators and Governor Rick Scott, the Governor stated he “won't appoint judges who think differently from him [just] to achieve diversity.” According to the Times, of the 36 appointments to the Florida judiciary since January, only two have been African American. In response, Governor Scott challenged the state’s judicial nominating panels to provide him with more diverse candidates.
